EVENING STROLLS THROUGH HISTORY
Centipede Tours is bringing back a Philadelphia tradition—evening strolls through Society  Hill and Historic Philadelphia.

Historic Philadelphia

Experience history where it happened! Join costumed guides on a ninety-minute stroll through the most historic square mile in the United States. Hear the dramatic story of America’s fight for freedom—and the men and women who created the nation. Walk the same streets that Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, and John Adams once did while exploring the exteriors of these sites:

    • The Liberty Bell: the hallowed symbol of our nation’s freedom.
    • Independence Hall: where the Declaration of Independence was signed.
    • Congress Hall: site of the first peaceful transfer of power and home to Congress from 1790 to 1800 when Philadelphia was the capital of the United States.
    • Franklin Court: the site where Benjamin Franklin's home and print shop once stood.
    • Christ Church: where many of our Founding Fathers worshiped.
    • The Betsy Ross House: home of the seamstress who sewed our first “Stars and Stripes.”
    • Elfreth's Alley: the oldest continuously residential street in the country.

Society Hill

The romance of history reawakens as guides dressed in colonial costumes lead ninety-minute strolls along the quaint streets of Society Hill and back into the 18th century.

Experience this novel way to explore one of the city's oldest neighborhoods and unveil the rich color and tradition that made Philadelphia the political, cultural, and economic hub of the New World.

The hidden gardens and courtyards, elegantly restored townhouses, and historic marketplace—once familiar to the nation's forefathers—come alive as guides share insights into the customs and lifestyles of its colonial residents and today's "urban settlers."

As you stroll through one of the most fashionable areas of town, guides will point out Trinity houses, carriage steps, and "busybodys" while providing folklore and anecdotes that will enrich your tour.
